Leslie Kaminoff created the Independent Yoga Educators of America, a group which protects yoga from state interference. Kaminoff is founder of the nonprofit Breathing Project studio in Manhattan. She held a Fourth of July, Declaration of Independence,  against government involvement teacher training. Other individuals formed a group, Yoga for New York against licensing. The State Education Department in New York suspended the mandatory licensing.  Senator, Eric Schneiderman proposed the legislation to change the laws for yoga, dance, and martial arts teacher trainings to also be exempt from licensing requirements.
